Bountiful Baskets: January 21

Oh, what a day.  It was nice to not be sick this time... so I headed in with the three big guys to volunteer and pick up our pounds and pounds of produce.

Pictured is one basket, without any of our extras for volunteering.  The color isn't so great...

In our two baskets, plus extras, we got:
  • two bunches of broccoli
  • two heads of cauliflower
  • two bunches of red leaf lettuce
  • 14 ears of corn
  • 32 Brussels sprouts
  • 8 tomatoes
  • 14 bananas
  • 8 Bosc pears
  • 8 kiwi
  • 8 pomegranates
  • 4 3-lb bags of apples
  • 6 oranges
Plans?

Lots of Apple-Pomegranate Crisp.  Yummmm.  The rest of the fruit will "just" get eaten.

Two meals of corn.  Two meals of broccoli.  A meal of cauliflower fritters, and something else with the cauliflower.  A couple salads, one undoubtedly with pomegranate seeds.  And the Brussels sprouts?  Well, I've been given a lot of suggestions on Facebook... so I'll be experimenting.  I've never eaten them before...

I also bought a box of tomatoes from Bountiful Baskets... and headed to Safeway and purchased a bunch of peppers (jalepeno, Anaheim, bell, and something else... a hot one, but I forget what).  So I'll be canning some more salsa, and probably some pizza sauce...

That Crisp sounds good. Sadly, no one else likes pomegranates but me, so if I get a hankering for one, I eat it over the sink on-and-off all day, lol! I SO wish we had BB out here. I sent an email to the ladies about it, but never heard back -- not surprising since I'd have to travel all the way to TN to get training (I think that is the closest).

Your bananas are YELLOW! Mine are green green green. That's ok.. they should be good by Wednesday and we're all planning on eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches for lunch. I was very please with my BB this week!
