Hearing from the Kids

So the blog cruise this week has us asking the kids some questions.  I typed up pretty much what they said (pretty much meaning that I couldn't always keep up!)  Anything in parenthesis and normal print is ME clarifying something.

Why do we homeschool?
  • Connor (13): We homeschool so that we can be taught about God, and are not taught stuff from just an evolutionary standpoint.
  • William (12): We homeschool because we want a better education.  Because then we don't have to get up several hours early just to sit on a bus for a couple of hours.
  • Thomas (10): Because public schools don't like Christians and we want to believe in our own faith.
  • Richard (6): Because we don't want to be taught evolution and we want to be Christians.
  • Katrina (4): I don't know.
What is your favorite part of homeschooling?
  • Connor: That I can excel.  I can do things like take algebra earlier, or start high school biology in 7th grade.  I don't have to learn at the speed of my class, I can learn at my speed.
  • William: I don't have to get on the bus.
  • Thomas: I like that there is time throughout the whole year where you can have time off instead of just one big recess time in the summer.  And Grandma and Grandpa can come and we can go to their house, and we can spend time with them.
  • Richard: I don't have to get up really, really early.
  • Katrina: (she just stared at me)
What do you want to be when you grow up?
  • Connor:  Probably a forensic scientist.  I want to do the science part of investigations.  Because I'm interested in science and I'm interested in crime prevention.
  • William: I'm not sure, because I have a whole lot of choices and I'm just not sure which I want to be.
  • Thomas: I want to be an archaeologist.  I'm planning to go to Greece and Rome and I want to try and find some things to try to support the Bible.
  • Richard:  I want to be a Christian.  I want to work for UL (Underwriters Laboratory) to make sure people are safe.  They make sure people stay safe by testing stuff to make sure that when people use it, it won't just explode or something.
  • Katrina: Actually, what I want to be when I grow up is an archaeologist.  And what I want to do is archaeology stuff.

I enjoyed reading your kids' responses! This topic is a big hit this week Debra! I've got tons of posts coming in, thank you so much for suggesting it, and for participating this week:)

I love your kids' responses to this, Debra! Your children sound so mature and intelligent. You are doing such a great job with your kids! :) I did not even try to ask my 3 year old any of these questions, and my own 10 year old woke up grouchy and wouldn't be interviewed.

I laughed out loud. William sure wants to avoid that bus!

Very thoughtful answers - especially on the first question - they really get it!
