My best tip for teaching creatively is to think outside the box. When you're frustrated with a curriculum, rather than quitting and buying something new, look at ways to use the curriculum differently. Adapt it to fit your family's needs. Make it work for you.
My other tip is to look for a book that can engage your child's interest in the subject and bring it to life in a fun way. Utilize your library as much as possible, but don't feel that only classics have value in your homeschool. There are a lot of good books that are newer that can engage a reluctant learner.
Great tips, April! I know quite often, for me, just changing how I use something makes all the difference in the world. It isn't too often anymore that I truly do something the way it was "supposed to" be done, as I end up adapting from the get-go.
And I love, love, love using a combination of classics, more recent "classics" and books that certainly have not (yet or maybe ever) stood the test of time...
