Plans for 2010-11: 1st grade and K4

I've been needing to get this all written out so I know what we are doing this year.  And then I saw the Not Back to School Blog Hop over at Heart of the Matter Online again this year.  Week 1 is Curriculum Week.  I'm going to do three posts... started with my 8th grader, then my 6th and 4th graders.  Finally, I'm writing about my 1st grader and 4 year old.

Richard, my 1st grader, is, well, precocious.  I think he's working above grade level in practically everything, but I haven't given him anywhere near the time he needs.  I'm hoping with some of the online classes for the big guys that this year will be when I can change that.  Trina, my 4 year old, is very different from her brothers.  She wants to write, for instance.  I think Richard has been teaching her to read.  Mostly, they will continue to absorb what their older siblings are doing.  But I plan for some stuff just for them too.

Little Hearts for His Glory:  This is put out by Heart of Dakota Publishing, and is intended for ages 5-7.  It is an overview of history from creation to now, and also includes Bible, science, and some read-alouds.  I think this will be a good fit.  I hope anyway.

In addition to that, we'll continue to pull read-alouds from Sonlight's PreK cores.

Also, I hope to be adding the occasional Download N Go study, as we have really enjoyed the couple we have done.

Math:  Richard will be using Math Mammoth and Mathletics.  I'm not doing anything formal with Trina yet.  Both kids will also be doing IXL Math.

Language Arts: For Richard, All About Spelling will definitely be happening.  We'll continue with Hooked on Phonics.  We'll probably use First Language Lessons.  And in January, I'll take a serious look at Writing With Ease.

For Trina, we'll continue to play with phonics, play with spelling, etc.  When it seems right, I'll start something with her.

I guess that is it.  I know there are still some other things up in the air, but that is the gist of the plans this year.  Subject to change, particularly with new Crew products.
